Description

The SCH-QC-TER-640mm-S is a 640mm Tersa-system double-edged planer knife for heavy industrial machines with 640mm Tersa-head capacity — the widest standard size in the Schmidt Tersa range. The 640mm knife serves the largest-format industrial planers and wide-bed moulders for extra-wide lumber, timber, and industrial architectural production at 640mm planing width. Tersa’s self-locking centrifugal mechanism and spring-eject system enable knife changes without tools or calibration at any knife width, including the 640mm. Double-edged design provides two cutting faces per knife before replacement is needed — no regrinding. Available in HSS for softwood-dominated production or M42 cobalt-HSS for improved hardwood edge retention over standard HSS at this knife size. Note: carbide is not available for the 640mm Tersa knife in the Schmidt range — M42 is the premium material option at this length. M42’s cobalt-alloyed composition provides meaningfully better edge retention than standard HSS in hardwood and is the preferred choice for shops running dense species at 640mm.
