Description

The TN300X is a 25-inch XLW high-performance HSS smooth-back planer and jointer knife bar, 1-1/4 inches wide and 3/16 inches thick. XLW HP is Schmidt’s premium extended-wear high-speed steel alloy — formulated for longer edge retention than standard T1 or M2 HSS grades, appropriate for production environments where maximizing edge life between grinds reduces downtime and grinding cost. The smooth-back format suits planer and jointer heads using gib bars, set screws, or wedge clamping rather than corrugated-back knife retention. At 1-1/4-inch width, this bar covers standard knife profile heights. Bar-length stock cuts to required machine knife lengths in-shop from the 25-inch bar. XLW HP requires standard HSS grinding equipment for profile grinding and resharpening. Shops choosing XLW over T1 or M2 typically see extended grind intervals in both softwood production planing and in mixed-species jointing environments where T1 edges dull more rapidly.
