The TN400X is a 25-inch XLW high-performance HSS bar-length planer and jointer knife bar, 1-1/4 wide and 1/4 thick. Bar-length stock allows the shop to cut individual knives to the specific length required by each machine — a 25-inch bar typically yields multiple knife sets for standard jointer and planer configurations from 4 inches to 16 inches, reducing per-knife cost compared to buying pre-cut sets. The 1-1/4-wide cross-section suits knife profiles that fit heads requiring this knife height; the 1/4 thickness must match the head’s knife slot specification precisely — confirm slot dimension before ordering. XLW high-performance HSS is Schmidt’s premium extended-wear alloy, formulated for longer edge retention than standard T1 or M2 HSS — suited to production environments where maximizing edge life between grinds is a priority.
