The HMC500B is a 1/2-inch mortising bit for hollow chisel mortising machines. The 1/2-inch size is one of the most common mortise dimensions in furniture and door frame production: 1/2-inch mortises accept standard tenons in frame construction, fit 1/2-inch loose tenon stock for floating tenon systems, and are appropriate for rail-to-leg joints in chairs and tables where the mortise-and-tenon is a primary structural element. The bit bores the round core while the surrounding HMC500C hollow chisel simultaneously squares the corners and cheeks of the mortise in a single plunge. Use HMC500B as a replacement bit for an existing setup; order HMC500S for the complete chisel and bit set. Confirm machine compatibility — the bit must fit correctly in the collet with the proper clearance between the bit and chisel for clean cutting.
